Supreme Court Proposes Opening Bar Exam to Non-ABA Graduates

The Supreme Court of Ohio has proposed rule amendments allowing graduates of non-ABA-accredited law schools to take the state bar exam while simultaneously launching plans to establish its own state-run accreditation system. Public comments on these amendments are being accepted through July 10, 2026, and can be submitted in writing to Zach Holscher at the Supreme Court of Ohio or via email at RuleAmendments@sc.ohio.gov .  Read more about the proposed changes at Court News Ohio .

Hoban Wins State Mock Trial Championship

Twenty-five Ohio high schools, including four from Cuyahoga County, competed at the Supreme Court of Ohio for the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education (OCLRE) State Mock Trial championship on March 14, 2026. Archbishop Hoban High School in Summit County took home this year's title and advanced to the national competition held May 7–9 in Des Moines, Iowa. The team finished 25th overall in the country. Congratulations to Archbishop Hoban on defending their state title!

Andy Wilson Appointed Ohio Attorney General

 Governor Mike DeWine has named Public Safety Director Andy Wilson to serve as Ohio Attorney General starting June 7, 2026. He will fill the vacancy created by Dave Yost’s departure for a role in the private sector. Wilson is set to hold the position for the remainder of the term until a successor is elected this November.

Legal AI Tool for Microsoft Word

Microsoft has launched  the Legal Agent, a new AI tool integrated directly into Word to assist legal professionals with structured document review, contract analysis, and risk evaluation. This tool is specifically designed to handle complex legal tasks like analyzing documents and drafting edits, while providing supporting citations for every suggestion it makes. Legal Agent is currently only available to Windows desktop users through Microsoft’s early access Frontier program.
